Welcome to the 2009 Arkansas River Valley Wildland Fire Academy. Academy History: The Arkansas River Valley Wildland Fire Academy has now advanced into its fifth year at Arkansas Tech University. Through the years the academy has seen an average of 375 attendees with 200 or more attending classes on any given day. That amounts to an astonishing 16,000 person hours in just a short two weeks. With these numbers in mind the academy strives to provide a diverse and well rounded learning experience in a friendly and welcoming environment. With the hard work of instructors and attendees combined, the academy has paved the way for attendees to safely and effectively fight wildland fires at home and across the nation. This year the academy is offering 25 courses geared towards wildland firefighters from all wildland fire agencies ranging from four to 40 hours in length. Taught by instructors from state and federal agencies the academy is able to bring unique experiences and lessons learned to the table that portrays a broader view of the profession. Participating agencies in the Arkansas River Valley Wildland Fire Academy include: U.S. Forest Service, Arkansas Forestry Commission, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Oklahoma Department of Forestry, Department of Defense Personnel, and the Oklahoma Native American tribes sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service which include The Apache Tribe, Caddo Nation, Choctaw Nation, Cherokee Nation, and Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma.
Mission: The mission of the Arkansas River Valley Wildland Fire Academy is to provide professional wildland fire training that meets the National Wildfire Coordinating Group Standards. This will be achieved by: · Providing concentrated, quality and professional training in an interagency environment. · Providing quality training that enhances advancement opportunities for attendees in the wildland firefighting profession. · Promoting safety and integrating the efforts of State, Federal, and Tribal organizations by utilizing the Incident Command System. · Facilitating a national approach to incident management by providing cognitive and hands-on experiences.
Academy Fees: · The registration fee for the 2009 Arkansas River Valley Fire Academy is $50.00 per registration ($100.00 for late registration). The registration fee includes all courses and course materials. · Lodging is available at Paine Residence Hall dormitory for $28.00 per night. · Meals are available at Chambers Cafeteria, breakfast is $7.00 per meal, lunch is $9.00 per meal and dinner is $11.00 per meal.
